Glenluce Village
Situated at the top of Luce Bay, on the boundary between the Rhins and
the Machars, Glenluce village is in the words of an eminent Victorian
"a spot of perfect tranquillity, where the sea meets the country".
These words are still true today. The village can provide for your
needs, with a post office, bank, newsagent and general store giving a
selection of goods from your daily paper to food and drink. There is a
choice of places to eat out, hotel restaurants, a small intimate bistro
and pub food. No problem if you prefer to eat back in your caravan or
tent, they will provide carry outs as well. So if it is local specialities
such as venison or fish and chips, you will not be disappointed. The village
and surrounding area are full of history, for example, the Cistercian
Abbey founded in 1190 by Roland, Lord of Galloway. The Abbey is part of
the Pilgrim's Way, linking various religious sites, marking the establishment
of Christianity in Scotland by St. Ninian.
